When I signed myself up for the local college's face painting class in 2005 little did I realise where it would take me.
I had seen a leaflet advertising a 10 week class and having an 12 month old little girl thought it would be something worth learning. Although, my efforts left a lot to be desired it sparked the passion in me to continue learning.
At the time I was working a few hours a week in a solicitors office and decided that once my son was born I would set up my own face painting business and that is what I did in February 2007. Back then I called the business The Face Factory and things took off.
In June 2007 I decided to conquer my fear of balloons by going to a balloon jam, where for the very first time I twisted a tube of latex and managed to make a sword, a rocking horse, a ladybird bracelet and an elephant hat. Once again I was off and it was not long before I added the balloon modelling to my business.
Never content to rest on my laurels in July 2009 I started learning balloon décor. I passed my fundamentals via Qualatex, joined NABAS and proceed to gain my QBA (Qualified Balloon Artist) qualification all in the space of a few weeks over the summer.
In April 2010 my business was so heavily balloon based I made the decision to officially change the name to Loony Balloony. I still love the face painting and glitter tattoos (I mean who wouldn't love putting smiles on kids faces?) but there does seem to be more demand for my balloon skills.
Since then I am constantly attending training classes and honing my skills to ensure that all my customers receive the very best service possible.
Who knows what skill I will decide to learn next (I did buy a pair of stilts a few months ago - now to find the time to use them! ) but I am sure I will not stop here!
